What Is the Hope Scholarship Program?

In West Virginia’s 2021 legislative session, lawmakers passed the Hope Scholarship Act, a big step toward providing every eligible student in the state with the opportunity to have a customized educational experience that better prepares them for their future.

Families will receive approximately $4,500 annually per child to help cover the cost of their education. 100% of current public school students in West Virginia are eligible to become a Hope Student beginning in the fall of 2022.

At no cost to you, these scholarships can help pay a number of different qualifying expenses. This could be used in a variety of ways, including blending your child’s existing public school learning experience with out-of-school tools like online courses, tutoring, exam prep or vocational classes and much more.

Applications for the program will launch no later than March 1, 2022, but could be released earlier. Make sure you are signed up for our email list so that you can be the first to know when applications formally launch. Award letters will be issued to eligible recipients within forty-five days of receipt of the completed application and required documentation.

After acceptance, one half of the annual amount of the fund will be deposited to an account allocated to your specific Hope Student no later than August 15th of each year. The second half of the funding will be deposited no later than January 15th. At the end of the year, any remaining funds in the account will simply roll over to the next year.

We know every West Virginia student is unique, each with their own gifts, talents, interests, and future career paths – the Hope Scholarship Program will help every student access the personalized experience that meets their exact needs.
